Hoodia Info: Hoodia seeds?

"Hi. I'm interested in growing my own hoodia. Where can I get hoodia seeds? Or is hoodia a plant that grows from cuttings? Thank you for your help."

First off, let me say that buying hoodia seeds and eating them in an attempt to suppress the appetite is a terrible idea! Some people have tried this, and believe me, hoodia seeds are nothing like the whole plant. They just don't work the same, plus they're more expensive than buying a good hoodia weight loss pill.

Having said that – hoodia seeds are available online. Growing your own hoodia from seeds is extremely difficult, however. Hoodia thrives in the Kalahari desert – and most of America doesn't have especially Kalahari-like weather. Even commercial planters in Africa had a great deal of difficulty in cultivating the hoodia, and they were in the right region. Despite all this, hoodia gordonii is the easiest of all hoodias to grow!

Hoodia is a USDA Zone 11 perennial. Hoodia sprouts better from root cuttings than from seeds. Cuttings are not readily available in the United States.

Hoodia takes 5-7 years to fully mature and flower. And when it does, you get a relatively unattractive brown blossom that smells like rotten meat. Hoodia is pollinated by flies rather than bees.

We recommend hoodia for weight loss rather than for gardening.
